The Battle of the Bulge was an attempt to break through Allied lines at the Ardennes Forest and the final German offensive of the World War II in Western Europe.

The battle started in the winter on December 16, 1944. At the time, the Allies were focused on subduing what remained of German troops that had invaded France.

The Germans troops caught the Alliescomplete surprise. But the Allies managed to push the Germans back to what is now the border between Belgium and Germany. Germany lost about 87,000 troops.

Germany surrendered unconditionally to the Allies on 7 May 1945, ending Hitler’s reign and ended German Invasion in Europe.

After the Normandy Invasion, Germany forces quickly weakened. On March 7, 1945, German began to withdraw from its borders and Soviet troops began invading Germany territory.

The intensity of the war was felt at homedaily air raids and food shortages. Awareness of the allied advances in Russia and Italy and the destruction of Dresden and Hamburg added to the despair felt in Germany andthe German people.

5. Hiroshima and Nagasaki Devastating Atomic Bombings

Japanese troops was in a precarious position in world war 2. The U.S. army blockade cut off their oil supplies, trade routes were being shut down, and the Japanese military was in disarray. On an island chain, surroundedAmericans, it seemed Japan would be in grave danger.

Then American forces dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, on August 6, 1945, and a second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan, about 90 minutes later.
